SCHOOL BOARD AUTHORIZES DISTRICT TO ISSUE
AN INTENT
TO AWARD & CONTRACT
WITH GENERAL CONTRACTOR

At a Special School Board Meeting on April 12, 2016, the Pioneer School Board authorized the District to issue an Intent to Award, and contract, with CE & C, Inc.  CE & C is a general contractor from Tacoma, Washington.  Depending on a number of variables, the firm could be on-site within 4-6 weeks.

The District has a number of reasons to celebrate.  Two causes for celebration that should not go unnoticed.

The construction market is very competitive at this time, which results in construction costs being on the rise.  Recently, two school districts in our area experienced a 30-50% increase over their projected costs. Pioneer School District’s project came in only 6% over their estimated cost projections.  The Pioneer Bond Advisory Committee (PBAC), Eric Lanciault, Architect, Construction Services Group (CSG), school staff involved in the Ed Specs, and School Board did a magnificent job of keeping costs down, while not sacrificing the educational/community value of the project.

The contractor bids came in $1.2 million over our maximum construction budget. But, with the financial
stability of our District we are capable of covering this difference with District reserve dollars.  The School
Board, Business Manager, Liz Winchell, and Pioneer School District staff should be complimented for
maintaining a high level of intentional spending and budget integrity over many years.

A big thank you to all involved for moving quickly and efficiently through the design work.
